how are tags different than activist codes? rookie question I know, but thanks!

Are tags hierarchical?

I have a question about applying multiple tags at the same time. Is this the wrong time
Dave Reed

Stephanie McGencey
18:59
so could I have member as an activist code, but use tags to specify tyep of member?
Stephanie McGencey
19:35
that's the thing, not sure what an activist code is? Isn't that one of the things I need to assign when I add an activist to my list?
Amy Chin-Lai
21:36
Hey Stephanie — we don’t have an activist code that you have to assign to activists. The only thing your activists need is email address. Let me know if you have questions about this!

Is there a way to remove tags in a scaled up way (i.e. not 1 activist at a time). What if ppl don’t want to volunteer anymore? I guess you could add another tag…

Is this data connected to the google sheet? Or is it just imported or exported ?
Amy Chin-Lai
28:20
The data is just imported (via uploads) and exported (via reports) as a CSV file. You can then open that in google sheets, excel, or whatever you want
pana
30:28
Thanks. Are there options to connect our own databases for Action Network to pull / push to?

Heads up for folks wanting to integrate with Salseforce: I’m not sure why, but we had to create a custom field for phone numbers in order to integrate with Salesforce
Amy Chin-Lai
32:04
We integrate with two CRMs: Salesforce and ROI Solutions. Here’s the doc for Salesforce: https://help.actionnetwork.org/hc/en-us/articles/203113579-Syncing-with-Salesforce

Amy Chin-Lai
38:49
And a new thing for all of y’all outside the US: You can set a default country and language for your group (for that one time you forget to have a column for country): https://help.actionnetwork.org/hc/en-us/articles/203113329-Editing-group-and-recurring-donation-settings

Okay - so this is exactly what I thought regarding multiple tags. But this is a problem, because we might have a spreadsheet with multiple columns for interests - election reform, education, environment. Each one should be a different tag. Separating into multiple CSVs is time-consuming. We could have one colummn with interests, but we'd still have the same problem.
Cormac Martinez del Rio
43:33
How to questions relate to fields? If you have a question on a form, is it also a field? Or do you have to connect it to a field?

how to put tags in CSV to upload? or can just do fields that way?
Amy Chin-Lai
45:03

48:41
What do you all recommend for managing multiple email addresses for an activist? I’m working with a union effort and our activists have a personal and a work email address. It’s useful for us to have their work addresses on file.
Philippa

Thanks Mari

I have a quick question not related to uploading activists, but related to those activist that I've already uploaded: Is there any way to browse through all my activists within Action Network, beyond downloading the whole list as a 'report'/spreadsheet? I know I can search for a particular activist, but is there anywhere where I can go to just scroll through the whole list? Or do I have to download a new report every time I want to browse my activists?
Sean Keller (Local Futures)
49:38
It's fine either way, I'm just wondering if I'm missing something obvious...
Valentin
49:44
yes
Valentin
49:47

52:24
Okay, no problem! Just wondering
Sean Keller (Local Futures)
52:25
Thanks!
Amy Chin-Lai
53:10
Hey Dave! On an action’s petition export page, RSVP export, etc, you’ll be able to see the latest 100 RSVPs, but not the full list if there’s more than 100. IF there’s more, you’ll want to download the full CSV: https://help.actionnetwork.org/hc/en-us/articles/203846245-Delivering-petitions-and-exporting-petition-signatures
Amy Chin-Lai
53:18
(Sean, sorry!)
hal
53:34
What is disadvantage of using custom fields versus tags?
Sean Keller (Local Futures)
53:37
(Hah, no worries, Amy, I just thought I was being stupid and missing something)
hal
54:04
I understand what they're meant for and all that. But still it seems you can use them interchangeably
hal
54:53
Thanks. I'm the team.
Cormac Martinez del Rio
54:56
So if I want to pull a list of people who checked a certain check box, do I have to say Include people whose entry to that field =1 or “1” ?
Amy Chin-Lai
54:59
Tags are much easier to target by. Here’s how you would target by custom fields — it’s more difficult, especially if you have any variation (like capitalization, extra spaces, commas, anything like that): https://help.actionnetwork.org/hc/en-us/articles/360017864652-Targeting-by-field-values
Cormac Martinez del Rio
55:14
Either work or =1 or “1”?
Amy Chin-Lai
55:35
1 without the quotes
Anand

Anand

thanks! appreciate all your work on this
Cormac Martinez del Rio
57:00
Ahh, yes! For sure. Got to “send to children"

Unrelated question – I'm trying to add a clip to an email with costume field we created. I checked on the existing clips option provided on the top of an email and the field doesn't show. Is there a way to add the costume field clip to an email so that when we send out the email the right information is added to the email. For example, by clicking First Name, the code {{ FirstName | default: "Friend" }} will be added to the email. How would I add same clip for costume field (e.g. organization), if the filed doesn't show on the provided clip list?
